Safety quarter turns / Security cam locks
Security cam locks ensure reliable locking in vibration-intensive environments. They are characterized by a special safety mechanism that prevents unintentional release or opening even under strong and continuous vibrations. This feature makes them ideal for applications subject to permanent vibrations, such as in mechanical engineering, rail and construction vehicles or wind turbines.
How do security cam locks
work?
Security cam locks work with a special locking mechanism that involves a quarter turn of the tongue. An internal pin or lug is inserted into a corresponding groove that holds the latch in position. This mechanism prevents unintentional opening due to vibrations. The latch is unlocked using a key that releases the pin or lug from the locking mechanism, thus allowing the lock to be opened. This design guarantees that security cam locks can only be operated from the outside.
Where are security cam
locks used?
Due to their robust and reliable design, security cam locks are ideal for areas where strong vibrations and shocks are prevalent. Their areas of application are diverse and include critical industrial areas where the safety of closures is of paramount importance. These include:
· Machinery and equipment in industry that generate strong vibrations due to their operation.
· Rail vehicles and other areas of transportation where continuous movement and shocks are a challenge.
· Wind turbines, which are exposed to extreme conditions due to their height and the effects of wind and weather.
· Construction sites and areas with regular heavy goods traffic, where the vehicles passing through can cause considerable vibrations.
In all of these applications, security quarter turn locks offer unsurpassed reliability by ensuring that doors and flaps remain firmly closed and can only be opened selectively.
Variety
of materials for security quarter turns
Security quarter turn locks are manufactured from a variety of materials to meet different requirements. The most common materials include
· GD-ZN (Zamak)
· steel
· Stainless steel
· aluminum
· brass
Depending on customer requirements, the surfaces of these materials can be chrome-plated or black powder-coated to provide additional protection and an attractive appearance.
Special designs: Safety quarter turns from EMKA with double bit
For specific requirements, EMKA offers safety quarter turns with double-bit 3 and double-bit 5 actuation. These are certified in accordance with DIN standard 43668 for electrical systems. A special feature of these cam locks is that the key cannot be removed when the lock is open. This ensures that the door always remains locked for security reasons.
